ARCHITECTURE
Every element of Après Cabin was designed to reflect the landscape and ease the connection to it. Dark cedar siding blends into the surrounding ponderosa pine forest. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the double height great room create view corridors through the house to the lake and mountains. Tall grasses and wildflowers spill over to the edge of a dry riverbed that seemingly flows through the structure, arcing from a massive boulder on one side of the house to the lake on the other.
The interior is remarkably light, in stark contrast to the exterior. Walls of windows allow light to drench the space. Grey tile flooring and white-stained fir walls and ceilings flow in and out of the home, creating a connection to the outdoors and extending the interior into covered porches and entryways. Sleek blue walnut cabinetry from Henry Built and Carrera marble backsplash add a cool contrast to the warm leather and wood décor that fills the space. Two double-story fireplaces bookend the great room and adjacent outdoor patio, creating a buffer to the private living spaces beyond.
PEOPLE
The retreat was inspired both in name and design by the local Nordic skiing culture and the rugged and refined Scandinavian warming huts that dot the 100 miles of groomed ski trails in the area. It is a waypoint between outdoor adventures and a refuge for those looking to reconnect with nature and more.
PLACE
Après Cabin is a two-story, 2,250 square foot cabin located at the edge of the wilderness, just 15 miles from Washington state’s dramatic Liberty Bell granite rock formation, the Pacific Crest Trail and the North Cascades National Park. Flanked by mountains and rivers, the cabin sits peacefully on a small alpine lake in the mountain outpost town of Mazama, WA at the top of the scenic Methow Valley.
