Eight vacation rentals in Joshua Tree designed by architects.

The Joshua Tree, California region features a striking desert landscape where twisted Joshua trees and rugged rock formations create an otherworldly, dramatic terrain. The area's vast, open skies and colorful sunsets add to its surreal beauty, making it a captivating destination for those seeking a unique natural experience.

Explore these incredible desert retreats featured in the DSGN Map collection, each designed by architects as a retreat from the city and available to book for your next adventure.

01. LE CHACUEL

What once stood here was a rundown 1980 yellow and brown ranch style house, until October 2018 when the property where Le Chacuel now stands was purchased by Mila Morris. Since then, their special space in the California Mojave desert has become a peaceful refuge for people seeking a stylish escape from the city.

02. FOLLY JOSHUA TREE

Pulling up to the Folly cabins, their rusty steel façade reads like a pair of abandoned sheds, forgotten by time among the Joshua Tree landscape. But peel back the weathered skin and you'll find a highly livable space. Architect Malek Alqadi designed a cabin that embodies modern design and the desert vernacular, seamlessly blending into its surroundings.

03. ROSA MUERTA

Acting more as a glamping site, Rosa Muerta is a pavilion in the desert that both contrasts and complements its desert location. The house is rooted in modernism, but details are both structural and ornamental with hearts and flowers, all in shades of black. Architect Robert Stone balances the boundaries of contemporary art and architecture to create an iconic shelter in the desert.

04. PRISM

Prism is a work of art living between the boulders in Joshua Tree, California. Designed to create a direct connection between humans and nature, Prism encourages guests to be completely exposed to nature while offering a sense of security and place. Urbarc Design Group preserved the landscape and unique views by taking a horizontal and functional approach to the design of the retreat.

05. THE GRAHAM RESIDENCE

The Graham Residence is a prefabricated steel home is remotely located in an area with limited access and great natural beauty. The home was commissioned in 2011 by Gordon Graham, and in an ode to the midcentury design that it channels, the hosts decided to name it after the original homeowner.

06. INVISIBLE HOUSE

Invisible House has been featured in countless music videos, television shows and dozens of publications worldwide. Designed by film producer Chris Hanley and Tomas Osinski, a Frank Gehry collaborator, the minimalist design features a 100 foot indoor pool and a west-facing wall of sliding floor-to-ceiling glass doors.

07. DESERT SOUL

Distinguished by Condé Nast Traveler as the Coolest Airbnb in the state of California, Desert Soul is a 10 acre sanctuary sited in a mystical theater of billion year old boulders in Pioneertown – one the most historic, storied and desirable locations of the Mojave Desert.

08. DESERT SKIES

Designed by the owner for him and his partner as a getaway from their busy city lives, the architects of Desert Soul sought refuge and privacy amongst their largest inspiration - nature. Each room has movable sliding, floor to ceiling glass walls to open up to the raw barren landscapes.
