Update New York features a captivating blend of rolling hills, serene river views, and charming historic towns nestled along the Hudson River. Its picturesque landscapes are further enhanced by vibrant fall foliage, lush vineyards, and the majestic backdrop of the Shawangunk and Catskill mountains.
Explore these incredible Upstate New York retreats featured in the DSGN Map collection, each designed by architects as a retreat from the city and available to book for your next adventure.
01. POND HOUSE
Designed as an escape from New York City, designer, owner, and Sundial Studio’s founder Kyle Page describes The Pond House as “a place for the kids to run as far as they can, as fast as they can.” The 3 bedroom 2 bath cabin was developed in response to the beautiful landscape it is placed within and is surrounded by forest and wildlife, overlooking a pond.
02. THE EDGE
Under the canopy of towering oaks and majestic maples, Creek House rests on the cusp of woods and water. Surrounded by seven acres of densely forested terrain, this weekend retreat sits on a precipice overlooking the creek below. Maintaining an intimate connection with the natural environment, the building site was pushed as close to the creek as possible, allowing the rush of water to be heard and enjoyed from every room in the house.
03. HUDSON LOOKOUT
The Hudson Lookout is set within the beautiful rolling landscape of New York State’s Catskill Mountains. Rising three stories above the site, guests can enjoy captivating views of the surrounding hills. Every single vista has been carefully considered, with different-sized windows precisely placed to make the most of specific views. A winding, black-painted steel staircase is set in one corner of the plan, ascending all the way up to roof level, where a full terrace offers an impressive 360-degree panorama over the surrounding wooded hills.
04. WOLFHOUSE
Set atop a hillside just north of the Newburgh-Beacon bridge with panoramic views of the Hudson River, Wolfhouse bears much in common with Phillip Johnson’s most famous home, The Glass House, erected the same year. Meticulously restored to its original condition in 2020, Wolfhouse has now been reimagined as a cultural space with year-round programming.
05. TAGHKANIC GLASS HOUSE
Located in rural Upstate New York outside of the town of Taghkanic, Taghkanic Glass House is nestled in a clearing within a pine forest. Designed by world-renowned architect Thomas Phifer, the public space-living and dining rooms of Taghkanic Glass House are housed in a finely-detailed glass and steel pavilion.
